There are so many “secrets” out there to online marketing that it can make your head spin. The fact is that there are many internet business strategy’s that one can choose from. I know you probably have seen many sales page letters that claim if you buy this product or that product you will make millions. Don’t get me wrong there are a number of great courses and products out there that have very valuable internet business information. I have used a few of them myself and achieved great success. One very important element to having a successful career online is self branding.

Self Branding

There are a number of products out there that when you see them you know exactly who makes it. It has a specific feel or look to it. That is branding. As an online marketer you are going to want to do the same thing with the products you promote or create. You need to give the campaign your own touch so when costumers read your advertisement, to them it feels personal. You should try to have something common in all of your sells pages or emails that can be like your signature so when people see it they automatically know that it is you behind the product or service. Once you have gained the trust of your clientele just the assurance that they know that you are behind the product being offered you can generate a sell and have repeat costumers. The idea is that they know that its you without having to see your name. They see your brand.

Try to be aware of this concept when doing any of your advertising and product creation. Making yourself a brand name is a great way to build trust between you and your clients.

There is a saying that goes “the harder I work, luckier I get!” This is true when you consider the best online business ideas.

You will earn extra income if you work hard to get it. You are not going to make any money if you are not willing to work extra hard. That is pretty simple as we look at online businesses.

Now there are a few things you can do to work smart and help your income at the same time. Here are a few things that you can do to improve your odds of making more money as you are working.

1. Automate as much of your Internet business as you possibly can. For example do email marketing using an auto responder.

Focus on building a large mailing list and then follow up with your subscribers all the time with your auto responder. This makes it possible to literally follow up with thousands of people with the click of one button.

Do you understand how powerful this tool is? Many online businesses make the majority of their money mailing to their subscribers and an auto responder makes doing this type of work very easy.

2. Use a blog as your primary website. This has become popular recently thanks to fantastic blogging platforms such as Word Press.

Instead of spending hours struggling to build one web page because you do not understand HTML, you can quickly let Word Press build your web pages for you.

You still have to come up with content, and put in the time that way, but if you do not have to waste time doing the hard stuff like building web pages.

3. Master some website traffic generation strategies. The work you put in here will really pay you back in the future once you understand how to do Internet marketing.

You really need to find a couple of ways that you enjoy promoting and stick with those.

I have seen other Internet marketers focus on article marketing, blogging, ezine advertising, and pay per click promotions. There are so many ways to get traffic to websites you really just need to learn a couple.

However, you still have put in the time to get the traffic to your site or you are not going to earn any extra income. This seems so basic yet it is amazing how many people fail to grasp the concept of working from home means you actually have to work.

If you are willing to do that the best online business ideas will pay you back with a good online income.

Every website owner or webmaster wants to know the answer to the above question. If we get into the purpose of a website, we can know what a good one can be. So, firstly we should ponder over the question that why a website is created.

Any website is created or built to be read and used as much as possible. Whatever the product or service it deals in, maximum profit should be extracted, then only it will satisfy its purpose. Now the question that appears is as to what needs to be done so that the objective can be fulfilled.

There are several factors of a site, that combine together to bring enormous profits or losses. In a gist, attractive guise along with user friendly contents make a highly successful website. Additionally, the user friendliness contributes a great deal for a site accomplishing its purpose.

The key elements of a good website can be listed as follows:

Content

The most important feature of a website is its content. All true information, when crafted together with the strands of correct grammar and punctuation manifesting clarity and simplicity create a content that can tempt any visitor to pause at your site. Return of the visitor again depends on the readability of contents only. When the content is superficially written, visitor just wants to leave it and go. Irrelevant content has also been found to be responsible for the user never returning to a site he or she has once visited. Considering an example, if you enter a content related to vehicles in a site for health, what good would the content do? Visitor would not like to read even the second sentence leave apart the question of returning. One should always remember that the content reflects an image of the organization. Spelling mistakes can also never be permitted here in the contents of a site if you want it to be successful.

Visual charm

This is what a visitor is fascinated by, even before reading the first letter. Actually, the choice to go through the total content also depends on the visitor’s idea about the first impression. And yes, the layout, colour and clarity together decide on whether to stop there or run away. Many sites use blinking letters and flashy colours which prove to be more disturbing than charming, which isn’t good for the site.

Don’t be too charming

By too charming I mean to say that one should avoid using too much appealing elements in his or her site. These substances increase the loading time making it a test of patience for the visitors which is never good. He would simply try another site that opens quicker instead of giving the test. Remember that, everybody is in a hurry over the web and has no patience to wait. Enormous number of sites with the same subject exist, so a high loading time will surely be compelling for the visitor to move away.

Cross browser compatibility

The site must open in all browsers alike and it must not be a single browser compatible. You never know what browser your probable visitor must be having. So, never choose a mainstream browser yourself and create site for that. It has to be universal.

Search tool and site map

Good sites have a search field to aid their readers. This enables the users to easily find whatever they want. Site map again helps them to know what all are there and if your site has huge amounts of data, it brings all complexity to get simple.

Good user interface

Your site should have an interface such that even a layman can use it. No technical jargon as they make the things complicated for an average user. Presence of links in easy to view places makes the things easier for everyone. Site map proves to be very useful for the user as it guides the person through different pages of the portal.

Web optimized content and images

Images, when optimized, get hazy or broken. This creates difficulty in viewing and recognizing the image there. Content optimization is also a significant and complex job. Therefore, it is suggestive that you ought to hire an experienced SEO professionals for the same.

A quality website is always to be accepted by everybody and the above feature will sure bring quality in your site thus ushering the popularity it is worthy of.

If you are a small business owner and do not have a website you could be slowly putting yourself out of business. Website presence is just as important for the local corner store as it is to the large corporations that make up the downtown skyline in all major cities. Researches and studies have shown that over 70% of consumers will use the internet to research a product or service before deciding to buy or contract a service. Looking at it from the other side of the coin, not having a website allows you to only attract 30% of potential customers. That it is a deficit large enough to put most companies out of business. So whether you are a one-man show, or a company of 10,000 strong, if you do not have a website than you are losing customers to companies that do.

With that said, it is not enough to just have a website. If you want to be taken seriously, you must have a professional looking website. A well designed website for a small business can give you more credibility than larger companies with poorly designed websites. In most cases your website will be the first impression that a potential customer will have about your business. They should be able to easily navigate the website and learn more about your business from the comfort of their own home or office. Presenting a poorly designed website could leave you out in the cold when it comes to whom that potential customer chooses to give their business to. This happens far too often when companies choose a “design it yourself” website package and try to build a professional website themselves.

Having a custom designed website for your small business is much more affordable than it has been in years past. There are several web designers who are still charging, and actually getting several thousand dollars from small business owners to build a website. A little extra research and effort would expose the web design companies, such as The Website Shack who specialize in designing web sites for small business owners. For just a few hundred dollars a small business can have a custom designed website that will attract potential customers and provide security for the current customer base. Having a website, even if you do not sell products online provides your customers the knowledge that you are out there. It creates a presence for your business that a paper flyer or magazine advertisement could never compete with. With the cost of a professionally designed website priced affordably for businesses of all sizes, your business can’t afford to not have a website.

In closing, it is important for any company that has hopes of longevity to have a web presence. My eight year-old niece is a beast on the computer. I was recently spending time with her and she was showing me things all over the internet that interested her. If she has a question about anything, she goes to the internet. When she needs entertainment she goes to the internet. In a few years from now, when she is a part of the future consumers of our country she will go to the internet searching for products and services that she needs… will your company still be around without a website? The days of newspaper classifieds and yellow page ads have been recycled, just like the paper they are printed on. Having a business and not having a website could be putting you on the same path to consumer extinction.

Let’s look at some of the more successful e-commerce sites on the Web and see how they balance content with marketing and sales techniques to get people to not only return to the site, but buy.

A Huge Ecommerce Site: Amazon.com

At first glance, it appears that this site is very focused on selling (as they should be), but if you notice, there is much more there than simply “Click here to buy this book”. There are:

Excerpts from the books for sale

A list of the 100 “hot” books, updated hourly

The top video and audio sellers for the day

Reviews both by other customers and professional reviewers

Author interviews

Contests

Reading groups and much more…

Amazon.com relies heavily on content to promote return visits and sales. They encourage their customers to review the products and provide live testimonials. Some customers will return to this site, simply because of the reviews and other resources.

An Ecommerce Movie Site: Netflix

On the surface, Netflix doesn’t seem to be about ecommerce – after all, they are a rental company. But they try to sell two important things:

accounts – the more people who rent from them the better they’ll be

movies – they also sell the movies to their customers once you’re a member

Netflix relies on free trials and demonstrations as the content to drive sales. They have a huge selection of movies to browse, plus lots of information up front about the plans and how you can buy.

Buy CDs Online: CDNow

CDNow provides content to their customers once you get past the first page. You can get News, Reviews, and other information about the CDs offered for sale, as well as the artists involved with the CDs. There is even a section of Web links with links to other sites that are relevant to the band in question.

One interesting feature that CDNow has is the ability to customize the site to your personal interests. You can do things like create a “favorite artists” list so that whenever they have new music, you will find out right away.

The More You Talk to Your Customers, The More They Will Like You

While most e-commerce sites do not rely heavily on content, they do use it to promote return visits and customer loyalty. Remember that 95% of the people who come to your Web page won’t buy anything the first time. They have to become comfortable with your site, used to how you do your business, and feel secure enough to commit their hard earned dollars. If you have reliable and useful content, they will return, with credit card in hand.

Facebook is undoubtly the most relevant social networking website today. Here is a profile of Mark Zuckerberg, the 24 year old Harvard whizkid that created Facebook.

Programming since sixth grade, he acquired a sensation while he was a Harvard sophomore. Always attractive to affluence the transfer of information between groups, he created an online techno-social that accustomed Harvard students to post profiles, browse or search for fellow students, view uploaded pictures, and share their affiliations and interests. Within two weeks, two-thirds of Harvard students signed up. Three weeks after the February 2004 launch, Zuckerberg opened it up to Columbia, Stanford and Yale; now it’s available to students (and some alumni) at more than 2,100 colleges and universities internationally and 22,000 U.S. high schools.

His first intention was not to create a business, but his success prompted him to take an indefinite leave from Harvard to focus on this project. He’s still learning plenty: “In the academic world, it was this ‘question everything’ mentality–never commit to anything that you can’t rigorously prove [is] correct,” says him. “In the business world, you have to believe in what you’re doing and stick to that. That’s been an interesting change.”

With more than 200 million strong users, two-thirds of whom log on daily, Facebook continues to grow with the influx of new users and added features. Says Zuckerberg, “Our vision is to increase information flow and help people express themselves.” The popularity of Facebook seems to have piqued the interest of potential buyers–its current valuation is $2 billion. At press time, the company still remained in the hands of Zuckerberg, who has found his entrepreneurial experience “awesome.”

“Most people have to work a lot of years to build something cool,” he says. “I’m in a different position.”

Indeed he is.
