Another option for marketing your online business is using pay per click advertising programs such as Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing. A clear benefit to these programs is that you pay only when someone clicks on your link, just as the name “pay per click” suggests. I would not recommend this method if you are just starting out. You have all heard of the infamous Niche Market! Aside from the confusion about how to pronounce niche: nee-schss, or nitch. Whichever way you pronounce it, it means money and a successful business to you, but only if you understand how to use the niche market properly to increase your profits.

By definition, we are talking about a small segment of a larger market. A cubby hole, as it were. If you consider the top level as “sports,” then every kind of sports and sports activity becomes part of a big, unqualified, niche. Try to sell a product in the “sports” market and your competition is in the hundred’s of millions.

You have to keep looking for a smaller part of the niche so you have less competition and you can become the big fish in the little pond! So you don’t sell golf, you sell golf balls. You don’t sell golf balls, you sell red golf balls because they are easier to see and the golfer won’t lose as many balls. Social networks such as Facebook will allow you to create fan pages for celebrities, bands, and companies. If you already have a list of satisfied clients and you want to get the word out, create a page (for free) and then suggest that those clients become “fans” of your page. it’s like word of mouth advertising with pictures and links!

Forums and online communities are a great place to make people aware of what you have to offer. When you can sign up for free and give advice for free, then you have a platform for telling others about your product or service without having to lay out cash.
